What is the Benefit of Implementing Accelerated Mobile Pages?
AMP, or Accelerated Mobile Pages, The AMP Project is an open-source initiative aiming to make the web better for all. The project enables the creation of websites and ads that are consistently fast, beautiful and high-performing across devices.
AMP-powered pages appear in a search result with a lightning bolt icon and the AMP acronym to mobile users. Besides displaying an icon and generally showing up higher in search, AMP provides up to 89% faster page load, better engagement, and conversions.
Right now, AMP pages are proven to be effective; I believe they will become increasingly more important in the future. With Google's impending mobile-first algorithm update, implementing AMP beforehand will let you stay ahead of the update. I did this for the latest project I just completed -- Nonprofit Expert -- and I think staying ahead of the curve is important towards beating the competition. After all, most people click the top 3 results. To learn more, check out this article I wrote a few years ago about why quality is the key to SEO.
